Outbreak of Salmonella Newport

Whooping cough cases increase

Cases of whooping cough (pertussis) reported to the Health Protection Agency (HPA) in England and Wales have more than doubled from 421 cases in 2010 to 1040 in 2011. Minor Surgery

Some minor procedures can be carried out in the surgery. The minor surgery clinic is carried out by a GP on Tuesday afternoon. You must be seen and assessed before being booked into the clinic

Travel Vaccinations

If you require any vaccinations relating to foreign travel you need to make an appointment with the practice nurse to discuss your travel arrangements. This will include which countries and areas within countries that you are visiting to determine what vaccinations are required. It is important to make the initial appointment as early as possible - at least 6 weeks before you travel - as a second appointment will be required with the practice nurse to actually receive the vaccinations. These vaccines have to be ordered as they are not a stock vaccine. Your second appointment needs to be at least 2 weeks before you travel to allow the vaccines to work.

District Nurses

There are several district nurses attached to Charnwood Surgery who also cover the branch surgery at Tufnell Gardens. The district nursing service operates an open access policy 365 days per year.

District Nurses visit patients who are housebound only and are not able to attend the surgery for treatment.

The District Nurses provide the following services:

complex assessment of health needs
wound assessment and ongoing care
acute and chronic disease management
health promotion
palliative and terminal care
promotion and teaching of self care
administration of treatment using specialised nursing
equipment and medication
promotion of continence and management of incontinence
access to specialist resources and equipment

If you need a blood test your doctor/nurse will give you a form. You can choose which clinic to attend to have the blood taken. Please take the form along to one of the following places;
